Then Ven. Ananda went to the Blessed One and on arrival, having bowed down to him, sat to one side. As he was sitting there he said to the Blessed One:
-"It is said that the world is empty, the world is empty, lord. In what respect is it said that the world is empty?"

Rồi Tôn giả Ananda đi đến Thế Tôn. Sau khi đến đãnh lễ Thế Tôn, rồi ngồi xuống một bên. Ngồi xuống một bên, Tôn giả Ananda bạch Thế Tôn:
- "Trống không là thế giới, trống không là thế giới", bạch Thế Tôn, như vậy được nói đến. Cho đến như thế nào, bạch Thế Tôn, được gọi trống không là thế giới?

Insofar as it is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self: Thus it is said, Ananda, that the world is empty. And what is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self?

Vì rằng, này Ananda, thế giới là không tự ngã, và không thuộc tự ngã, nên thế giới được gọi là trống không. Và cái gì, này Ananda, là không tự ngã và không thuộc tự ngã?

The eye is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self. Forms is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self. Eye-consciousness is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self. Eye-contact is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self.

Mắt, này Ananda, là không tự ngã và không thuộc tự ngã. Các sắc là không tự ngã, hay không thuộc tự ngã. Nhãn thức là không tự ngã, hay không thuộc tự ngã. Nhãn xúc là không tự ngã, hay không thuộc tự ngã.

-The ear is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self...
-The nose is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self...
-The tongue is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self...
-The body is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self...

-Tai là không tự ngã và không thuộc tự ngã..

-Mũi là không tự ngã và không thuộc tự ngã...

-Lưỡilà không tự ngã và không thuộc tự ngã...

-Thân là không tự ngã và không thuộc tự ngã...

The intellect is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self. Ideas is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self. Intellect-consciousness is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self. Intellect-contact is empty of a self or of anything pertaining to a self. Thus it is said that the world is empty.

Ý, này Ananda, là không tự ngã và không thuộc tự ngã. Các pháp là không tự ngã, hay không thuộc tự ngã. Ý thức là không tự ngã, hay không thuộc tự ngã. Ý xúc là không tự ngã, hay không thuộc tự ngã.
